Songs and Sonatas
Cascadia Composers is excited to announce the Portland debut performance of dynamic composer, French hornist, and singer David A. Jones, joined by pianist Rebecca Stager.

Come join us for an evening of new vocal and instrumental music by Cascadia Composer members! The program will feature the world premiere of Jones's Isang Punongkahoy ("A Tree") for voice and piano, with text by Filipino poet Huseng Batute (José Corazón de Jesús). Jones will also present his Sonata for Horn and Piano and works by Ken Davies, Ryan M. Hare, Lisa Neher, and Walter Saul.

Dr. David A. Jones (b. 1990) is a composer, hornist, and singer based in Salem, Oregon. Through his music, Jones seeks to highlight hidden details and unknown stories of our world and expound and elaborate on them. Many of his works engage with artwork from other disciplines, including painting, sculpture, dance, literature, and experimental film. His music has been performed by the Bradley University Symphonic Winds, the Braeburn Brass, the Invoke Quartet, the Prismatic Winds, the Xelana Duo, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Hexnut, and the Nautilus Brass Quintet. Jones holds degrees in composition from Rice University, Brigham Young University, and Brigham Young University-Idaho. He currently teaches at Linfield University and Linn-Benton Community College and is a Tagalog-speaking member of the Translation Advisory Council for the Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division.

Rebecca Stager is a collaborative pianist and vocal coach residing in the greater Portland area. Oregon born and bred, Rebecca received her bachelors degree in Music from Oregon State University, and her Master's in Vocal Accompanying from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Rebecca has been collaborating with musicians in and around Portland for nearly 20 years and enjoys playing everything from opera to choral works, from Schubertian Lieder to the Avante Garde, from Brahms trios to Broadway classics. You can frequently find her playing for Fridays at 4:00 at Reed college, or playing with singers for outreach performances through Portland Opera To Go (POGO). When she is not tickling the ivories, Rebecca enjoys watching sci-fi shows, collecting new hobbies, and submitting crochet works to local county fairs.
